VEPAG Presents:

On Friday, May 11, 2007 at 7:00 PM at the Manchester Avenue Elementary School, VEPAG presented the "Children of the Gospel Concert".  This spectacular concert/workshop is one of VEPAG's Youth Arts Programs!  The event was the result of a three week intensive, yet fun-filled vocal workshop that gave the beginner and the experienced student the opportunity to learn voice, choral harmonies, diction, music theory, and more from Berklee College of Musicís Alumni & other top professionals in the music entertainment industry!

VEPAG's goal is to develop an overall assertive, confident, creative young person, poised for a brighter future.   Knowing that music and math skills access the same side of the brain, VEPAG's workshop develops the participants intellectually as well.

Each participant learned to read and write music in music theory class.  One of students even wrote a beautiful heart, warming song about her baby brother during the workshop and performed a small rendition of the song in concertEach of the students also learned that as singers, their bodies are their instrument.  They were taught how to properly care for their voices and encouraged to listen to different styles of music.  In the vocal technique class they learned how to properly fill up their lungs with air and in a master class with Nia Peeples from "FAME" they learned how to fill up the stage with their own unique presence.

Message From The Director

This is our 1st Youth Arts Program for Vision Entertainment Performing Arts Group and as someone who eats, breathes and lives the arts this program has been a very rewarding experience for me and our staff.   The objective of the program was to showcase the tremendous talents of the Los Angeles Metropolitan area youth.   To provide them with disciplinary and artistic skills toward building their knowledge and technique while preparing for a professional production.   We also sought to create an environment that promotes self-confidence, imagination, motivation and respect for one's self and others.

It has been such a pleasure to have the opportunity to cultivate and share our knowledge with each of the talented and gifted children who participated in the program.   On many occasions it brought tears to my eyes watching them grow during this workshop experience.   I am indebted to my fellow VEPAG partners Loretta Chandler and Sydney Porter for helping me to provide this wonderful vehicle by which we can give back to the community that we serve.  This is a dream come true for all of us and with your help and support we will provide the vocal workshop annually .

Last, but by no means least, I would also like to give special thanks to my alumni and colleges from Berklee College of Music for taking out the time to participate and give of themselves to these beautiful children.

Children of the Gospel was made possible by a generous grant from the Berklee College of Music Alumni Grant
